Lying 6 miles from Carlisle means the village is effectively a satellite of the city. There is no pub and no shop and so access to the city is important and although there are service links to the city they can be described at barely adequate. Although as previously mentioned
Kirkbampton is in Allerdale the village has more of an affinity with Carlisle rather than the towns of Wigton, Kirkbride and Workington to the West. As such the details of transport links and local amenities tend to pull you towards Carlisle. The Primary School has a great reputation and the Village Hall is available for events and personal hire.
