Parish Council

Kirkbampton is a small parish situated in the far North West of Cumbria in North West England.

The area encompasses the villages of Kirkbampton, Little Bampton, Oughterby, Studholm and Ploughlands, as well as having close links with Thurstonfield which is in the adjoining Parish of Burgh by Sands. Kirkbampton Parish is officially under Allerdale District Council control but it is over 60km to Workington (the administrative centre) and the Eastern Boundary of the Parish is also the boundary between Allerdale and Carlisle City.

The village and parish of Kirkbampton lies on the Solway Plain approximately 6 miles West of the border city of Carlisle with it's historical cathedral and castle. It encompasses the villages/hamlets of Kirkbampton, Little Bampton, Oughterby, Studholme, Flatt and Ploughlands.

This web site is for the benefit of both residents and visitors, who seek to enjoy the advantages of being part of our community. We hope it will also be informative and interesting to existing and new residents and visitors and enable them to take full advantage of what the area has to offer.

Village Hall

The Village Hall was the inspiration for the creation of the web site back in 2000 when it was decided that the original prefabricated ex nissan hut was totally unsustainable.
From those days we created a modern village hall with a large hall capable of events of up to 200 people with a stage, fully functioning commercial kitchen and 2 smaller meeting rooms that can be hired on an individual or full hire basis 365 days of the year.

Most of the events from the various organisations in the area are held in or centred around the village hall.

Parish Magazine

The Kirkbampton section of the Parish Magazine is now available as a PDF download. It will be available shortly after the copy date (10th of the month) which is well before it comes through your letter box. Items for inclusion in the Parish Magazine can be sent in from the contact page of this website. All items MUST be received by the 9th of the month prior to the publication date. So for example items for events in August must be received by 9th July. For events early in the month (say 1st week) it is advisable to send items in a month earlier as some newsletters do not reach your letterbox until the first week.
